I've not found myself compelled to compile my own kernel, so I'm not much help on the subject. Here is a link to the kernel archives in case it's of any help to you. http://www.kernel.org/

I would recommend sticking with a gobolinux kernel as some distros tend to include certain patches that are not available in the main kernel. These patches may or may not be required for your system to run properly.
gobolinux allows an easy way to upgrade your kernel at thier site: http://www.gobolinux.org/index.php?l...US&page=kernel. Just download the latest kernel, download the script that they provide and follow the instructions they give you. You'll need to reboot once you're done. They also provide the kernel source if you wish to compile it yourself.
