Re: squid and firewall in fedora
The firewall is iptables. It truly is a bag of worms. You can filter a packet both going and coming. It is designed as a state machine as the packet is examined. It doesn't do much scanning of the data of the packet itself. There are plenty of very good FAQs with examples for firewall as well as NAT in Wiki's. My previous firewall was a 750 Megahertz Pentium and didn't have any trouble keeping up. I run my firewall Linux in text mode, because I don't want to carry the GUI overhead.
There is a squid that can be installed. I use a proxi called "privoxy" the kills some pop-ups. Since your running Fedora run the command "yum list | grep proxi" or "grep squid". Yum will tell you if it is installed or not. If it isn't yum can install it. |
