Re: Installing Java

What browser? Which Linux distro? Your profile says you are xp.

If you are running Firefox (or another browser) type in "about:plugins" and hit return. Java if it is installed will befound somewhere in this list. My Linux-Firefox uses "GCJ Web Browser Plugin 1.4" as the Java runtime. See if java is installed here.

Did you go to Sun and get the current Java "exe"/bin?

Re: Installing Java

Hi,
I am on Linux (sorry didn't update my profile) and using Firefox.
The "about:plugins" says that I have GCJ Web Browser Plugin 0.92 & Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_03-b05.
Sorry I am a newbie and don't know how to find the Linux distro. How do I do that?
When I do java version- it says:
java version "1.6.0_03"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_03-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0_03-b05, mixed mode, sharing)

Please help! It looks like everything is installed - so why won't it work?

Thanks
Helen

Re: Installing Java

What version of Firefox? Go to Help->About Firefox. The version is displayed there. I have version 2.0.0.10. I went to yahoo games, never been there before, and tried a solitar game. It worked for me. It had great graphics and good speed dealing cards. You might update firefox if it not the latest version. (I'm running Fedora Core 8 Linux).

Are you trying to play a "team" game?

Re: Installing Java

Hi
I have Firefox version 2.0.0.11.

I can get to the spam page( where you enter the letters and numbers) and I can enter the letters and numbers. Then it doesn't load. It says I don't have Java. On the Sun verify Java page it says " Oops! You don't have the recommended Java installed.
Your Java version is 1.4.2. Please click the button below to get the recommended Java for your computer". Of course I have installed the latest Java as detailed in my previous post.

Thanks
Helen

Re: Installing Java

Go to this url. It is for fedora core 8, but should work for most installs.

http://www.gagme.com/greg/linux/f8-tips.php

Just over half way down is a major title: "Install Java J2RE and Mozilla Plug-in"
Test that out on Firefox.

The other problem is up by the youtube picture when the instructions are installing flash player and that is the line for 64 bit machines to register the plugins. The instructions says it is automatic for 32 bit machines, but I run a 64 bit and I was bit by this one.

mozilla-plugin-config -i -g -v

When I run: "java -version" I get the same as you do.

To get the name of your distribution, like fedora, ubantu, etc do the following command from a command window. "more /proc/version". The command "more" gives/dumps to the screen one "more" screen full. Buried in the line is who you got your install disk or iso from.

Good luck.

My System

Re: Installing Java

You can also type on command line:
Code:
uname -a
Results for my machine:
Code:
parents@pardus ~ $ uname -a
Linux pardus 2.6.18.8-86 #2 SMP Tue Dec 4 10:50:54 EET 2007 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) Processor GNU/Linux
As you can see, I use Pardus on an AMD Athlon processor.

Cheers

Re: Installing Java

True. "uname -a" works fine. BUT "more /proc/version" is a lot more verbose than uname.

Linux version 2.6.23.1-42.fc8 (kojibuilder@xenbuilder4.fedora.phx.redhat.com) (g
