beryl + kde + nonroot login != working

I installed pclinuxOS just to give it a try and I was (very) happy to find beryl under the drak something session option. I clicked that, logged in and against the black screen the OS brought up a dialog asking for the root password which I happily supplied. After that the configuration dialog appeared for beryl. i configured it, saved it then tried to continue with the login process to use all these fancy things and an dialog box appeared in the upper right hand corner that said "log out then hit ctrl+alt+backspace". I find this odd because that key combination is to log out. so I logged out using those key strokes and thinking beryl had to restart itself or xserver or something like that. I tried to log back in and was presented with the same dialog boxes then the same log out message as before. I tried logging in as root and the beryl effects work perfect. How do I make it so I don't have to only use the root account and still keep all of these awesome effects. Obviously beryl works, so this is probably a permission issue, but I am new to KDE and have no idea where or what the option would be to make it so beryl wouldnt need root permission or make it so my normal user account could modify beryl so I dont have to log in as root every time.

Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

P.S. Is there something wrong with the default repository settings in PCLinuxOS? Everything I try to download fails (ntfs-3g, tor, gaim, and all supporting packages) so far. Im using their 2007 release, are they no longer supporting this version of their distro, or is this one of those half free linux distros where users have to pay to get additional software?

Re: beryl + kde + nonroot login != working

Ok, first I have to say that CTRL+ALT+Backspace is not a logging-out shortcut. What it really does is kill the X server (restart it) which also kills all the applications that are running over it (All the graphical applications) and as you may suspect when you kill an application it doesn't have the chance to save the configuration which is possibly the reason why it says the same thing all the times you log-in. So you should log-out and then press CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE as the dialog says.

If this doesn't work try to stat a normal sesion, bring up the terminal (konsole) and type:

Code:
compiz --replace
This will kill kwin and bring compiz up. If you get tired of the amazing effects you may have guessed that you can also type:

Code:
kwin --replace
To remove compiz and return to kwin (sometimes this yields courious results.... :P)

If you log-out after using compiz --replace the next time you log-in compiz will be used instead of kwin.

Hope it works.
