Sound problems with PulseAudio in Ubuntu 7.10

Hello everyone!

im having a problem with my sound on my Ubuntu 7.10. My sound wasn't working very well when i first installed the OS (i have a 5.1 surround system, and i was only getting sound out of the front left speaker). i asked around and someone suggested using PulseAudio instead of the default EsounD as my sound server to get better support for my surround system...so i installed PulseAudio via the instructions listed here (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio) then restarted the computer, but now i have no sound at all.

pulseaudio appears to be recognizing my device, and if i test my playback with the test sounds in the pulseaudio manager, it shows a mono audio stream in the volume control tool, and it shows a audio activity in the volume monitor, but i still get no sound out of my speakers....and before anybody asks, yes all the speakers are plugged in correctly, the sound system is turned on, and all the volume dials are at max.

im using a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 24bit HD sound card...im not sure what other info might be relevent here, so if anybody has any ideas or suggestions at all, please post them. thanks in advance

Re: Sound problems with PulseAudio in Ubuntu 7.10

and if nobody knows how to deal with this problem directly, then does anybody know how to say...manually reconfigure the sound server, or if uninstalling then reinstalling the card would help?
