Re: IP Address
To access your Linux system from your windows machine first install the SSH Server in the Linux machine, I do not remember the package name exactly but look for it in synaptic / apt / adept (I think it is openSSH). Then in your Windows machine download some SSH client, I like Putty because it is easy to use. http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~s.../download.html
Open Putty and connect to the IP Address (it uses port 22, just in case you need to forward the port / configure it on your firewall). Then you'll get the terminal. Keep in mind that you won't be able to run graphical applications because there's no X-Server to forward (There are a couple of X-Server versions for Windows but I have never used them if you manage to install and use them you can do the X Forwarding with Putty, then you'll be able to run GUI applications) I'm leaving a screenshot of Putty running on an XP machine and connected with a Kubuntu. EDIT: BTW If you manage to install and run the X-Server in windows and forward it to the Linux machine post it... I would like to try it :) Last edited by sbobillierc; 01-10-2008 at 07:46 AM. |
