IS330 Scanner in Linux
What do I have to do to get a Ricoh IS330DC scanner to work in Fedora Core 5? Its a SCSI Scanner. I have the windows setup disc. I need to get it working in SANE. Thanks, Scott

Re: IS330 Scanner in Linux
1. Get your scsi card working. (Without connecting your scanner). Once you think it installed, go to the "/proc/scsi" directory and look at the file scsi. It should show you that scsi was installed. Core 5 should find your new scsi card and install the appropriate driver. "/proc/dev" should show a scsi card interrupt. If you do a "dmesg | more" at a command line you should also see (somewhere in the listing) your scsi card being found by the kernel as it boots.
It might take two boots to finally find the scsi. The first boot to notice new hardware is connected and the second boot to make it useable. The first boot might fight the hardware and install the drivers OK, but the second boot may require the drivers actaully "take" without errors. 2. Now install the scanner. The OS should see the scanner. Again go to "/proc/scsi/scsi" pseudo file and the scanner should be seen. 3. Setup sane. I have found sane to be a great program. It can find hardware any machine easily. Sane knows how to setup the hardware easily. I have a scanner that is on my home network and it works great. The network setup of sane is tricky, but once I told the installer the IP number it worked perfectly after that. Good Luck |
