[SOLVED] Friendly ? fonts
Using Slackware 12.0, xfce 4.4.1, and like my 640x480 screen resolution.
Have been trying to get my fonts so that they are readable in window frame, toolbars, game frames, etc. After discovering the need to set DisplaySize in xorg.conf and putting a dpi font size into .config/xfce/Xft.xrdb as Xft.dpi: 75 (not as Xft.xrdb--grrrrr!) I have my font sizes where I want them. BTW using 96 at this resolution blows sizes way out of proportion. If I change User Interface Prefs by changing from slight to medium or full it blows away my Xft.dpi line at the bottom of Xft.xrdb-- WOW that's so cool GRRRRRrrrrr! I mention this because without that line in Xft.xrdb the panel is perfectly sized about 1/2 inch hight at the bottom of the screen after restarting the window manager. When I put the line back into Xft.xrdb and restart the window manager the panel then takes up about 1/5 of the screen. Does someone know how to reduce the height of this panel without screwing up all these sizes ? What is slight, medium, full referring to? Aliasing the fonts? Re: Friendly ? fonts
Solved it! In case anyone is interested, here is what I finally discovered and
am using: FILES: ~/.gtkrc-2.0 ====================== style "default" { font_name = "Sans Serif 15" } class "*" style "default" gtk-font-name = "Sans Serif 15" ===================== ~/.config/xfce/Xft.xrdb ===================== Xft.dpi: 50 Tried 96 and 75 here but 96 left fonts too big and 75 was also large but there the problem was with the Orage clock (now corrected) NOTE!!: Changing between full--medium--slight causes This last line in the file to be deleted when window manager is restarted. ===================== /etc/X11/xorg.conf Add the following as it applies to your display settings: #===================== # Divide screen pixel resolution by screen resolution # Using xdpyinfo | grep {dimension|resolution} then divide corresponding # dimension width (height) by its resolution and multiply by 25.4 # 640x480 & 30x28 i.e. 640/30*25.4 and 480/28*25.4 = 541.8x435.4 DisplaySize 542 435 #===================== Desktop Preference: >Behavior > Desktop Icons = 28px > Custom Font Size = 14 Panel Manager: >Appearance > Size = 24 -- effects HtxWd of icons within panel User Interface Preferences: >Font(+size)= Sans 18 --effects toolbar frame/menue fonts >Rendering: slight --CHANGING THIS REMOVES Xft.dpi: ## FROM Xft.xrdb file above Window Manager: >Title Font(+size) = Sans 16 -- effects window frame fonts >Style = iceg Terminal: >Edit> Preferances > Appearance > family & font = Sans & 14 Orage Clock: >Orage (background) > Properties For each line of clock, adjust same's font family & size: Show Line 1: 16 Show Line 2: 14 Show Line 3: 14 Check box on Height x Width then set font size for fore-/background color to adjust size of panel. NOTE!!: Changing font size height & width (BG/FG) info affects panel size!! THE LAST <);^}= FINAL SOLUTION! (I think, I hope!) |
