Re: Installing Linux.
What Fred said is the best way, but not the only. If you have plenty of free space on your hard drive, you can install Linux on the same drive. You will not need to format the drive. Linux can re-size your Windows partition to make room for a Linux partition. You can download Fedora:
http://fedoraproject.org/ Just get the latest stable version.

Re: Installing Linux.
You'll want 7. 8 is a test release. I386 is for regular computers, 86_64 is for computers with 64 bit processors. If you're not sure what you have, post your complete system specs here and we'll try to help you figure out which you have.
All fedora releases use Anaconda.

Re: Installing Linux.
Below is my CPU and Mobo, I Have a 350G HD, And a eVGA 258 MB Video card. I am hoping that linux doesnt format anything when i install it on my E: partition which has alot of important data in it.
Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 Allendale 2.0GHz 2M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard |

Re: Installing Linux.
You can use the 64 bit version.
You will have to make sure you specify (during the installation) that you want it to simply resize your Windows partition, not remove it. Also, you'll want to make sure you have a backup of your most important info, data loss isn't common but it can happen when you're doing stuff like making new partitions, etc.

Re: Installing Linux.
You download the ISO image, then use a burning software such as Nero (I prefer ImgBurn - easy to use, reliable & free - www.imgburn.com)
You do not simply burn that file onto the CD, but you select the option that says Burn Image to Disk or something like that. If you use ImgBurn, it's really simple, you just locate the file on disk and click burn.
