No optical sound in applications...

Hi,

I get sound from my optical output when I test the sound in the audio settings, but I can't get the optical audio working in any applications. How do I get this working?

The OS is Ubuntu Linux 7.04 and the sound card is an integrated Realtek AC'97 ALC series.

Thanks.

I mean sound from the optical TOSLINK output on the sound card. It works fine on the analog stereo output, but I'd like to get the sound on my surround sound system instead of my crappy computer speakers.

Re: No optical sound in applications...

I have an update. I now found that the audio works on the digital, but not on the analog in the IM program Gaim...

Does anyone have any idea how I can get digital audio in my media players (eg VLC)?

i don't really know anything about getting digital audio to work, but is the volume turned up in the mixer? maybe there's a separate slider for it.
