Three Ubuntu related questions
Hi to all!
First of all: I'm no longer impressed by Ubuntu... I'm overwhelmed!!! Under Windows 2k this system had severe problems (slow down, extensive heat, and it had to be rebooted every morning); under Ubuntu nearly everything works, and the system won't heat up as much as it used to do, nor do I have to reboot it in the morning! Besides that, my internet seems to be faster... Having said this, there still are a few things I'd like to know:
I know these are "newbie" questions, but to Ubuntu I am a newbie, so please be patient with me ![]() Thanks in advance for the help! |

Re: Three Ubuntu related questions
Hi PureEvilDan,
In all cases the links you provided helped me to solve the questions, or issues I had. And I will take your advise not to edit these config files... if I can help it ;) Thank you very much for taking the effort! |

Re: Three Ubuntu related questions
if you need to edit certain program config files, check if it is in your home folder. go into your home folder and click "view" then "show hidden files" and a ton of folders named something like: .whatever
feel free to edit the configs in most of those folders because if you mess up something, you can usually just delete the folder and it wil replace itself. |

Re: Three Ubuntu related questions
if you didn't know this already, the command to edit system files is:
sudo gedit /dir/whatever/file.conf Last edited by kpmwrestler; 08-14-2007 at 11:33 PM. |

KPMWrestler, thank you very much for these hints; no I didn't know the command to edit the config files; so I learned something useful again.
![]() So far I had excellent experiences with Ubuntu FF 704, and now that JAVA works, it's even better. OKay, I'm off now; time to do some major ![]() ![]() Thanks again! |
