Re: What Mr DEll runs on his own computers?

that would take the price down a bit. the only problem i can see with that is people who dont really know what they are ordering deciding to order the comp with linux because its cheaper. they just wont know what they are really getting into. but i am glad to see that now there are alternatives to having to buy a computer with windows. i mean granted, if you wanted linux its not that hard to get or put on, but now you dont have to pay for something you didnt really want in the first place, or already owned. i just wonder if they are going to come filled with useless crap they put on the windows disks...

It's unclear to me whether they'll be any cheaper. Dell has sold "n" series PC's for a while - no OS at all. They were often MORE expensive than the same model with Windows pre-installed.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Dell must realize it's not going to be well received if they try selling Linux PC's for more than Windows.

I hope to starts a trend of computer makers going to Linux.I think Mr Dell made a very bold move by standing up to Gates and his Vista garbage.

really? they sold them for more when they had no os? thats crazy. i know with their servers, you can order them with a linux os and its usually about 200 or so cheaper. and i agree with justo, im glad that there is someone who isnt going to just vista... idk about anyone else, but vista seems like Me all over again to me.

Re: What Mr DEll runs on his own computers?

That is the bad thing when a giant corporation begins to think there is no other competition. They eventually do themselves great dammage thinking the consumer has no other options.I like Windows 2000 and think it could have been improved. But big corporation management thinks of adding useless gimics and clutter then claims it is improved.Microsoft is their own enemy.

Bill Gates has given money away for years.

Anyways, dell isn't the first company to sell Linux pc's, Walmart did it for awhile.

Re: What Mr DEll runs on his own computers?

I bought a Microtel PC loaded with Xandros standard several years ago through Wal Marts online. It cost 212 shipped to my door.It is setting here beside me with Mint KDE and PC Linux loaded. I has had a lot of Linux loads run through it and still works.AMD CPU and ASROCK mother board.
