Linux wireless cards?

I have two Netgear MA 311 PCI wireless cards that work on most Linux versions.A Belkin F5S7000 with Broadcom chip that works on Ubuntu and Mint.I guess Kubutu also. But I have the latest versions of dreamlinux and Sabayon Mini that I can't get going on wireless with MA 311 card.I expect Belkin not to work so I have not tried it.Sabayon Mini list it properly as a Prism wharever. But I can not make Dreamlinux.Sabayon or Knoppix to go on wireless. Anyone know how?Anyone know a PCI card that works?

Re: Linux wireless cards?

I have found two wireless PCI cards that work well under Linux :
D-Link DWL G510 Hardware Revision B1 (Atheros chipset)
Linksys WMP54G (Ralink RT2500 chipset)

You have to make sure that you get the right chipset.

Re: Linux wireless cards?

Justo, have a look at this link:
http://www.friedhoff.org/ma311.html

This chap has the same MA311 pci card which acts in 802.11B mode, and managed to set it up with WPA encryption, so you should also be able to get yours working.

Re: Linux wireless cards?

Thanks.I will check that out.Pluss save the info on the later models above.I like Sabayon mini but I want to get online with a wireless signal from my friend in the lower room.<> Ok, I am back.I can probably do this if I wrote it all down to work the instructions as I go.I have been hit on the side of the head with an AK round and had a Caterpiller track fall on my head so my memory is not quite up to snuff these days. But if no late model PCI card works without the complex procedures then I will print those instructions and have a shot at loading my MA 311.I am glad you posted this so I can have something to work with.

Re: Linux wireless cards?

I know not about the card you mentioned but have loaded that Linux several times n recent months.I know that the Netgear MA 311 puts you on wireless signals with very little effort. But a couple of times I got kernel panic with FC that locked two hard drives.I managed to get them going later.I think someone will come by with info on your card soon.I have not used that one though.

Re: Linux wireless cards?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you got the card name wrong, the closest I could find was a AWLH5026.
If you do lspci it should come back with...
Code:
Ralink RT2600 802.11 MIMO
There are 2 things you can do.
1)
Code:
modprobe rt61pci
*may error, if your kernel does not have the correct module*
--
2)
Download from: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/r...ar.gz?download
To install do
Code:
cd Module && make
make install

Last edited by PureEvilDan; 04-23-2007 at 10:08 AM. Reason: I lied, there is no install file...

Re: Linux wireless cards?

You are correct, that was a Typo on the wireless card.
Also you mention to run command:
If you do lspci it should come back with...
Code:
Ralink RT2600 802.11 MIMO
-=---------------------------------------------------------------------=-
and
Code:
cd Module && make
make install
-=---------------------------------------------------------------=-
do I do this in the Terminal window? of FC2?

I appreciate your help.
