Disk Parted?

I had read sometime ago that you could recover the space that Linux occupied if you took Linux off the HD and used XP with the disk parted program (Built into XP) I read this on Xandros forum some years ago.But an "expert" told me that it is not possible because there is a partition that was set when Linux was placed on the hard drive. Does any of you know about this?

Re: Disk Parted?

This is not the disk part technique but it is one way to go about the process.>> http://www.linux.com/howtos/Install-...ies/x412.shtml <> OH Here are more ways.So much for the expert who said it can not be done..... >>>>>>>> http://techrepublic.com.com/5206-623...206906&start=0

Re: Disk Parted?

It's very easy to remove the Linux partition from within XP, just go to control panel, administrative options, computer management, then go to the Disk Management section, right-click on the Linux partition and choose to delete it. Then you'll probably have to remove GRUB if it was installed on the MBR. For that, just boot to the Recovery Console from your XP CD, and type: fixmbr
That removes GRUB.

Re: Disk Parted?

THANKS Kyle. There were some Windows people telling me that you are suck with the gap on the hard drive you can not use if you dump Linux. But I always add another version anyway.

Re: Disk Parted?

LOL, well that's certainly not true. I've installed Linux on a hard drive, then wiped it from XP and installed Windows, then back to Linux, so there's no problem.

Re: Disk Parted?

When is the regular PC Linux site coming back? Also on my computers that have PC Linux 2007 is there a problem getting updates or programs by the package manager now?

For updating, see this page:http://www.google.com/notebook/publi...9bQgoQveeGjJ4i
And this thread: http://pclossupport.forumsland.com/p...-about254.html
The site will be back up...very soon, according to Texstar. They're builing a brand-new website.

Re: Disk Parted?

Thanks Kyle.I will check after I do a job.<> This is the Mint forum.I guess you know Bigbear from the PC Linux forum. He had made a post at Mint on PC Linux. One guy had nothing good to say about PC Linux nor Texstar. But Clem came in a had good things to say of both PC Linux and Texstar.Clem is the main man on Mint.It was nice of him to say good things of those who are somewhat in competition with him. Clem is French. For an American to get compliments from a Frenchman is nothing ordinary.Clem seems to be a pretty good guy. >> http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1119
