Re: linux all together

#1 requirement for a happy Linux user: broadband

Well, that and a good attitude.

- Are you a serious gamer? (yes, I know, some popular games work in Linux but by "serious gamer" I mean someone who is fully prepared to replace or gut his PC for DirectX 10)
- Do you rely on Windows-based software for some specific tasks like video editing or CAD work?

If no to the above 2 questions, then you're starting to look like a Linux candidate.

- Do you use your PC to email, surf the web, listen to music, manipulate digital photos? You know what I mean, mainstream PC tasks.

If yes, even better.

You could find yourself hung up on driver issues if your scanner/printer/video card/wireless parts haven't received attention from either Linux developers or a progressive manufacturer. For instance, HP spends some effort making sure their printers will work in Linux and their devices are generally considered a good choice when shopping for peripherals.

If you have broadband and compatible parts and you don't need specific Windows-based software to get thru your day you could easily find yourself using PCLOS or SimplyMepis or OpenSUSE or Ubuntu/Kubuntu and loving it.
