You will have to be more specific. Please include what type (wireless, wired, proxy servers, DNS, DHCP, Samba, VPN, etc.). Also please tell us what distribution you are using.

You could start looking through the HOWTOs and the networking administration guide at tldp.org. TLDP (The Linux Documentation Project) has a lot of information, so if you're looking for a guide/tutorial/HOWTO for Linux, TLDP is a good place to start.
I might be able to find more in bookmarks or at sites I remember if you have specific questions later. |

Are you trying to access the hard drives? First make sure the network interface is active (probably eth0).
You will have to share folders/volumes in a similar way to Windows. Then use a Samba client to view the shared files on the other computer.

Are they both in the same workgroup? Set each computer to be on the workgroup "Workgroup". Then type this into your brower:
Code:
smb:/

-where can i change the workgroup is it on samba too? if so, then both computers must have samba running on them in order for them to communicate? if so, i thought samba is only used in networking linux and windows...

It can be used for Linux to Linux, although generally you use NFS for that. If you don't have a dual boot on any of these computers, then forget Samba for now. I believe to get into the networking control panel in GNOME you go into System > Preferences > Networking. If you don't see an option for Workgroup, put the two computers both on the same Domain.
