Installing Firefox 2

Well, I have finally found the time to return to this forum, and boot up my Mandriva 2006 after many months. However, I have suddenly remembered why I haven't returned to it for so long: I couldn't install programs. I have still not been able to install any of the programs that I have wanted to since the beginning.

I consider Firefox 2 to be the most important program I need to install, so I will ask for assistance for this program only for now. '06 contains only 1.0.x, so I really need to update. I don't want to update to 2007 - I don't have the time, and I don't want to waste 3 more CD-Rs. I have found this little guide, which I have found be of some help, but not a lot, since it doesn't cover Firefox. So anyways, based on the guide's part about installing Flash Player, I tried this to install:
Code:
wget -c http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-2.0.tar.gz
tar zxvf firefox-2.0.tar.gz
and that's as far as I could get it to go. Could anyone explain how to complete the installation?

And if anyone could explain general rules on installing programs (eg. commands), please tell me, I would appreciate it.

BTW, while I'm on the topic of frustration, anyone know of where I could find a good manual for Mandriva online for free?

Thanks for your time. I'm sorry if I already asked about something similar before, I just find constantly using Konsole hard.

Here's a little guide on installing software http://soft.zoneo.net/Linux/install-software.php
Unfortunately I'm not sure how to install FF 2.0 in Mandriva. Maybe someone else will...

First check your package manager and see if it is in there.

This is how to install the tarball from Mozilla:
