No Sound on Ubuntu 5.4

I have looked everywhere and tried a lot of different things to get the sound working, I typed lspci and got nothing about the sound card in there and from what I read that means its not installed at all I know ya'll like to see what came up for yourself but its on a different computer and I can't get on the internet with it, havn't figured out how to use dial connections on Ubuntu yet.

Anyways to make a long story short how do I fix this?

Maybe you should try installing 6.06, it might have added support for your sound card.

Yeah I plan on it as soon as I get the discs for it, until then I was wanting to try to get it working...

if you have internet access, you can upgrade by simply going into a console any typing:

Code:

sudo apt-get update

then type:

Code:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

if you have dial-up, you can probably leave it overnight (unless you pay by the minute or will get booted).

The CD's will take about six weeks to ship if you need to go that route (they say it might be less, but it never has been for me-- might be a bit less for a single cd?).
