Unbuntu installation...
I want to try out unbuntu dual-boot but I am not confident. I am afraid that I would like do something wrong and all my data will be gone. I don't have the space to do a backup. Anybody had encountered any problems with installing? Anyway, Is it ok if I use Paragon Partition Manager to partition first before installing. Will it be easier as i am scared I would do something wrong in the partitioning at unbuntu partition tool thing.

How big is the hard drive and how big is the windows partition? Also, are you resizing the windows partition to make room for an Ubuntu parition?

My drive is 120GB. I have currently two partitions, the windows one and a spare one to store data. The windows partition is about 71GB while the other is about 43GB. I want to resize it for a linux partition. But can I use Paragon Partition Manager? I can make linux partitions from there.

Dorts,
Have you tried Ubunto from the live CD ? If you have not, I recommend that you do so. This way you can test-drive Ubunto without actually installing it on your hard drive. It runs from your CD drive. I dual-boot with SUSE 10.0 and XP. The install took about 15 min I suppose. It's all on an 80GB and SUSE automatically split it equally between the two OSes. XP was on the drive first and was not damaged at all by the partitioning. When I start the system, I have ten seconds to choose Windows, if I do nothing it will default to SUSE, which, as it turns out, is a very good thing ![]() Go here to request your free Ubunto CD: https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ JF |
