installing xmms
ok.. i tried installing it.. and i read the install file. it said to simply use the terminal type in the location of the configure file, let it run then type make.
after typing in the location for the configure file it stated i had no GLIB.. and to install it. I downloaded it.. and typed in the same kind of thing, i typed in make and it all went successfully. I went back and tried to install xmms.. i typed in the configure file and the location in the terminal and.. then typed make.. it ran and was done.. congratulations to me huh? lol Problem is.. i can't find the program or use it i guess.. :( Im using fedora core 5 if it helps ~blitze |

The install should have put a link in the system menu in multimedia/video. Shy of that you could select the run command from the system menu, and type xmms on the command line. One of those should work. Also if you try to open a video file, xmms should be in the list of applications with which to open the file.

Since you went through the actions of configure and make, iyou're telling me that you may have tried to do this the hard way. Was there not a .rpm of xmms on the FC-5 installation CD's?

I've had that happen with the installing of stuff and it disappearing on me. Go to "actions" then "run application" and type "xmms" and you might get it. Look under the "sound and video menu" in "applications" for "audio player". That's what xmms shows up as for me.
Why did you want xmms anyway (just curious) it can't handle MP3's or AAC files. MPlayer is a good choice. (if you install this one you have to type "gmplayer" to get it to run; don't ask why because I don't know it just doesn't run if you type "mplayer" in the command window. learning to install tarballs is hard but it can pay off in the future if you find software that isn't offered in RPM format. I've tried to install RPM's where my computer goes *twitch* "NO!". then installed the tarball fine. Almost every tarball you install will be slightly different, so google how to install whatever it is you are trying to install.

Yea that function was taken out of xmms for redhat 8.0 and Fedora Core 1-5 because of patent and copyright issues. However, *trumpets sound* you just need to download the plugin.
