Thanks for the advice. I downloaded both diagnostic files from Western Digital. Neither worked properly when I tried to run them off of the installed floppy. The one that WD suggested I use said it was missing the vdisk.sys file. When I checked the floppy, it had the necessary file but appeared to be smaller than the standard vsdisk.sys file size. There was ample room on the floppy for it.
I also tried to re-install windows xp pro and after it was finished caching the necessary files, it indicated that that there was no hard disk attached. I assume that would indicate that the hard disk is not powering up.
I am still waiting for a response from the outfit from whom I purchased a new hard drive. I hope to have it sometime this week.
Thanks again for the response. I'm wide open to any suggestions.
