I don't live in the US so I don't know how much Geek Squad would charge. Hang on for some more replies about this or give them a call. I can't see them charging too much to stick your card in one of their test machines for a few seconds.
I had a similar problem last year with a 9800 which had to be replaced. The artifacts on mine were more like flickering vertical bars in Windows and random characters during POST. Bad VRAM.
