Hi, and welcome to TSF!

I honestly can't be certain, but the likely answer is no. Most laptop optical drives are interchangeable, but I don't think floppy drives are. Obviously its not a dumb question because I am not sure of the answer.

You can always get your friend a USB floppy drive. This sounds like an older laptop but it still should have USB ports. The only issue will be that it might not have USB legacy support meaning that it won't be able to boot off a USB floppy drive. But it will work in Windows.
