Could be anything really, many times faulty RAM.
When handling the RAM, keep one hand on the unpainted bare metal of the case. Do this before touching and keep cloth/es, paper, carpet away from the RAM. Don't keep a hand on the carpet and you should be fine. Handle RAM only by it's outer edges (four corners).
You can put your case on the carpet if you want, with the covered side facing the ground and the opened side facing you. That'll be fine.
