ok, so after a lengthy talk with verizon tech support which consisted entirely of them telling me to turn off and turn on computer, router, and modem in every possible combination, as well as unplugging and replugging everything, they determined that for some reason I am not receiving an IP from them (gasp). So they're going to have their technicians check their end and the lines in and around my house.
