computer thinks hard drive is missing....

Hi. This is my first post here. I need some help with a virus problem I've been having lately. I am running xp home on a cisnet 3.2 GHz.
I had found several viruses etc. as of late, tried installing a program to remove a "onoe's.exe" virus, restarted and then my computer decided I no longer have a hard drive. I had other virus/malware problems at the time too. All within a few days and had had no problems for the 6 moths prior since I bought the pc. I can only get into the BIOS. Nothing loads. I get "SATA is missing" and " no operating system found". I ran chkdsk from am xp cd and it said my partition has problems. I cannot format, it says "cannot format removable drive" even though I am trying to format c:/. Nor can I re-install windows at this point as everything keeps telling me I don't have a hard drive but I'm 99% sure it's a virus and not a hardware problem.

Has anyone encountered this and/or has any input into what I can do to fix the problem? I would be forever in your debt!!! lol
Thanks!!
