Computer switching off

Ok guys my pc has been acting a little bit strange lately, it randomly switches itself off without any prompts on screen BUT the power light on the case stays on and so does the LAN light at the back of the mobo. I can't remember the model of the mobo but its definetly an asus. I have an amd 3000+ 400mhz fsb, 1gb ram and 2x SATA hdds.

When this happens I have to switch the power off and on at the mains because simply pressing the power button on the front of the pc does nothing. A friend did suggest that maybe the ram is faulty but i tested both and still the same thing happens.

Oh and one other thing, it always seems to happen when adobe products are running such as photoshop/dreamweaver. Before when I had vista on the same pc simply opening the above programs would switch my pc off.

Anyone can help I would be very thankful.
