Hey,

I had a similar problem and so did my brother. We opened the wires on my brother's ac adaptor and noticed that the wires were melted from too much heat. When I contacted gateway for my laptop, they sent me a new ac adaptor and that helped. You just have to remember to use a laptop cooling fan so the laptop does not get hot enough to melt the power cord. At least that is what I think the problem is IMHO.
