Looking around today, saw your thread, looked familiar so I checked in.
Probably like Smeghead I`m assuming (bad word that>***/u/me), but all the same assuming you have multiple windows open. I also am running IE 6, same problem and depends entirely on how graphic intensive the sites in question are, but for sake of this are # of windows open ALWAYS same #, or vary?

If the # of windows open are ALWAYS the same #, you may want to reload Windows, and re-update IE6.

If # of windows open vary is probably just maxing your system resources, as opposed to some diabolical site, some other puter problem. or an actual problem you can fix while still using IE6.

Quick and easy way to check, costs nothing and no new software needed is to simply limit the # of windows open at 1 time to lets say 2. Surf that way for a few days, no problems bump up to 3, so on so forth. Sooner or later I`m thinking you will start to see the max # of windows your puter is likely to support before getting stress. Knowing this is beneficial as it will allow you to use IE6 without this troubling side effect it seems to have. It actually is an improvement, as you don`t just simply lock up, and stay locked up/crash/flame out as with older versions of IE. It just says well now I`m gonna take a rest break, you been kicking my butt, and I`m tired. It does come back up, just varies how long, mostly dependent on your sys resources.

Like most of us having all them lil windows open so u can just keep popping back to em is how we like to surf, but the more you have open the more "energy"/resources it take to support them.

For keeping track of everything while surfing use Favorites for a while. Click Favorites tab, then click "create in" this will allow u to open a new Favorites for that particular night/day whatever. label it by date, name whatever u want to use. Then pop each URL /site u visit, and may want to revisit that night in there. Surfing takes a wee bit longer this way, as the actual windows are not open already, but you can limit your open windows to whatever # of them you are trying to maintain at that point in time. If you find you don`t wanna go back to any of those sites the next night, nuke the entire folder, or just empty it, and start over again the next day. Find a "goody" site, add to your normal Favorites. This way you don`t clog your Fav`s with a buch of junk.

Doing this it won`t take long to find your "open window threshold", the # of windows, or actually the amount of info/ongoing tasks your systems resources can support without stressing it out. Becaue some web pages are like little town kansas at midnight, not much going on, and some are like LAS VAEGAS at 9PM, your # of windows open will probably vary a bit, add to this are u listening to a CD, also downloadin 2 or 3 MP3`s while surfing along, etc etc, all of this takes resources.

If you find u can surf without locking up with a smaller number of windows open at once, the problem as it is isn`t such a problem and has 2 ready fixes.

#1 keep everything just as it is now, but know if you do too much, you get a rest break.

#2 ADD MEMORY!!!! More memory is ALWAYS beneficial, adding memory is the #1 thing to do to effectively tweak up a computer, used to be you had to pay a heavy price for more memory, not anymore, memory manufactures have noticed, now they sell a boatload more of it, and actually make more money now, selling so much more even if at a lower price than before. A Good thing, win-win for eveyone.

Also agree with Smeghead, dump the Norton, but this is just a personal thing, and may or may not change your overall preformance, although I do feel it uses way too much in your resources to run it, at least for it`s worth as compared to other virus scanners. I have great luck with Panda, u gotta buy this one, but E-Bay sellers have it for around $25.00 shipped, as opposed to $69-89.00 retail.
As always at E-Bay if offered by a power seller selling just this type item buy it there when they have great feedback as opposed to a guy selling 1 copy, and a bunch of household junk with goofy feedback, and always COMPLETELY READ THE AD, question??? ask before pulling the trigger, especially on software, always another auction coming up in a hour or two, you can`t afford not to wait.
Don`t wanna buy, check the softwares side of this site, look for antivirus, see what others are using, does it work, where ya get it, cost etc etc.
