Clock and date running slow/pausing

My problem seems to be a bit differnet form the others. And yes, I have already replaced my CMOS battery. I have a Compaq Evo N610c laptop. I'm running XP pro.

My clock runs okay for several minutes after I manually set the date and time (it won't sync with anything online either), then slows down considerably. Sometimes it even jumps backwards. This is very frustrating.

Typically I put the laptop in standby mode at the end of the day. Whenever I start it back up, the time and date display when I put it into standby, whether it's is 6 hours or 6 days later.

Please help me. Mike in Boston
