Tech Support Forum - View Single Post - extremely slow laptop, done the basics...i think

hi, i have a gateway laptop, MX6441. running windows xp media center edition. AMD Turion 64, 1.79 GHz,512 MB, 80 GB hard drive with about 35 GB free. when i first got it, it was super fast. now not so much. very slow start up and even slower logon. and it has started freezing up every now and then. i run AVG free, Ad-Aware, and Spybot S & D. all comes up clear. i've done disk clean ups and defrag. i've run msconfig and got rid of all the misc crap. i don't have a lot of desktop icons, maybe 12. i also keep it on a notebook fan so i don't think its overheating. not sure what the next step should be any advice would be really great. sorry to blabber on, thanks in advance.
