Toshiba Protection Plan Worth The Investment?

I plan on purchasing the Toshiba Satellite (A135-SS4527). I believe it is a Intel duo processor, 1GB Memory, and 120GB Hard Drive, loaded with Vista. I'm purchasing it through COMP USA. They have it on sale for $599 after a $150 mail in rebate.

The protection plan is $140 for 2 years, apparently it covers parts and labor, and in store diagnosis.

It sounds like a wise investment, but I'm a poor college student, so anywhere I can spare myself from spending funds, is great. Oh, and if you're wondering why I'm purchasing this laptop if I'm a poor college student - I'm giving my mother my desktop PC so she doesn't have to buy a new computer.

Anyways. It seems like computers don't start going wrong until AFTER two years. And I'd like to think that I'm moderately savvy (I'm no tech) when it comes to computers, so I don't feel that I'm prone to totally destroying my laptop.

So, is the protection plan really worth it, or can I get by without it? Also, can protection plans be purchased at a later date?
