Hot Gateway 7320

This is my first post. Please help. My gateway 7320 power adapter port, on the rear of my notebook, gets scorching hot after just a few seconds. The computer locks up after a few minutes. If I try to run the computer on battery power, I only get a few seconds before the batteries are drained. The computer operates properly until it locks up. It's like something is causing it to draw way too much current. I've removed the DVD drive, the battery, and the LCD display. The adapter port still gets smokin' hot a few seconds after startup. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
