You can make those 47.56 GB another partition, like D:, by just right-clicking on it, selecting create a partition and later assigning it a letter. I'd suggest you do that, and you could use that new partition for your downloads for instance, so you decrease the fragmentation speed of your c: drive.

If you really want to merge that part of your drive with your c: volume without reinstalling xp, you'll have to use partition magic, but I'm note sure the free demo version does it.
