I like HWM's approach, it removes all the maybe and "what ifs"


BTW: you cant test the external drive for bootability becasue windows cant be booted from an external boot drive but you can as HWM suggested, remove the drive from the external enclosure, then connect the drive internally in place of your other internal drive, boot from that.

if all is cool and you are happy, clone from the transplated drive to the USB external.
