The hard drive on the Inspiron 9200 is a standard 9mm mini-IDE (2.5") drive. It should be jumpered for Cable Select when in the notebook normally (the normal, factory default, setting for any IDE drive in a Dell system). When using it in an external drive enclosure set the jumper for whatever the enclosure recommends.
According to my documentation, the 9200 shipped with 40, 60, 80 and 100Gb hard drives. You can probably use 120 or 160Gb drives in the system if you wanted to, but I can't guarantee the BIOS will properly recognize them (the system was most likely not tested with drives that size).
If you had any questions about the system I will be more than happy to answer them for you.
