i have a Compaq Presario Desktop PC and i want to put a new hard drive in but i dont know which one to buy.

the one i hav now is a ATA drive ...if i buy a SATA drive will it connect?...what is the difference ...if not then does the RPM matter...or does it hav to be a certain speed based on the computer?
