uploading files to a new computer

Hi

This may not be possible, but here goes!

I have a problem with my PC in that the monitor is showing the "self test" screen (that's my first problem, any ideas?). I've just bought a new mac so my PC is near enough redundant so I don't mind so much that I can't use it, but there are lots of files on there that I would like to get back! Is there any way of uploading them to my new mac without a monitor? For example if I could link it up via usb could I access the hard drive through my mac? I'm quite possibly talking rubbish, but I have no idea how to resolve this issue. Is it possible? Is it possible to do it myself, or will I have to take it in to a shop?

Thanks

Oh and if I've posted this in the wrong forum I'm very sorry, wasn't sure where to post!
