harddrive swap>system not starting up>keyboard error
I'm lost, and I'm new to PCs--a Mac guy working on a friend's PC.
I've got a Dell 4300 that i don't use any more. But, my E-Machine's motherboard went so i'm trying to switch the hard drive from the E-machine to the Dell 4300. The hard drive I want to use is a "TriGem 40gb Victor" and the Dell's was a "Seagate U series 5". The Dell was working fine prior to the hard drive switch, but after only switching out the hard drive I can't start windows. Windows XP will appear for a split second then it flashes to a blue screen with white writing for a split second, then Dell BIOS starts to open. In BIOS it appears to see the hard drive, but I don't think it's actually using it.
Also, there are times when a "keyboard error" will appear under BIOS and the "num lock" light on the keyboard comes on and the only remedy for this is shutting down manually. What gives?
I hope that all of you PC people will immediately recognize that I'm doing something wrong and it's a solvable problem.
