First, on that model of Dell, I remember it being VERY proprietary and picky about a couple of things.
It is very picky about the memory, so just buying off the shelf memory probably will not work. If this is in the cards.
It is also very picky with the jumper settings, you will be better off selecting the "cable select" jumper settting on the hard drive, I have had better luck with hard drives in those machines my doing this.
