The 1.4 GHz Pentium M was a very low power CPU. Which is the Centrino chip? If that is a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo, then that would explain it. Also, if the power scheme is on Notebook/Laptop on the D600 and the Power scheme is on Always On on the D610, then that would explain it as well. Switch the power schemes so they are the same and see if you get more equal battery life between the two laptops.
