So I leave them run 24/7 but if it was not for this research I would shut them down overnight but I honestly don't think it matters to the health of the computer one way or the other.
A computer running at idle uses
about as much as a 60 watt light bulb, so if electricity is a concern then it should be shutdown.
Also consider the fact that if the computer is running several hours doing nothing it wastes electric and if we all left them run for nothing that would add up
