After slipstreaming XP+SP2 onto the new HDD, it still would not recognize more than 127GB so ran the Seagate Disk Utility CD again - and fixed it that way. I now have a new partition (F:) with the rest of my HDD accessible.

That problem solved, still working on the (corrupt) WD 120Gb and trying to determine why it happened...
