How to RAID-0?

I am going to buil a computer with two sata hard drives set up in hardware raid-0.
Now my question is how do i set it up?
My second question is, if the sata controller (or harde drive controller or whatever) makes the OS see two drives as one and use them as one why do you need drivers and whatnot?
Doesn't the Sata controller just tell the OS that its one drive and then it go's on and reads and writes as one drive even though its two?

Note: i know that there is sofware raid also but thats not of interest to me right now.

ThankYou
