Shutdown Noise

From reading on the internet I've been getting the idea that this is a HDD problem so it's been posted here. If it's not I apologise because it may not be.

The Symptoms are:
  • While burning a DVD the buffer will go down to nothing then the machine will freeze
  • Going through files will cause it to freeze. Example: you play some songs and keep changing them in winamp.
  • I was able to Format. I'm able to still copy data onto another HDD so I could format.
  • Both HDDs would not fail both at the same time yet this problem is on both on them.
  • You hear a sound similar to the sound of the computer turning off. On average Twice before the machine freezes.
  • When the machine freezes you cannot use CAPS LOCK
  • It is not based on the amount of time you have the machine on.
  • It can freeze when you come to the welcome screen of windows XP.
  • It's not logical if it's been formatted and I still have the error
  • It's a Hardware error. Hardware is not working properly
  • This problem arised from doing nothing to it. Would a IDE cable be worn?

    thanks in advance
