What does being a conservative mean? Please give some examples of conservative positions on issues. Pick any you want but here are a few suggestions:

What does being a successful society mean
Globalization/Free Trade
The exercise of power
Government’s role in directing everyday life decisions
Interpretation of the Constitution, particularly regarding checks and balances
Government’s role in allowing for “the pursuit of happiness”
The role of religion in governing
Emigration

I ask this honestly because I'm truly curious. I always thought I understood what being conservative meant. But given the direction we've been heading under conservative leadership I cannot say that I know.
