I've seen quite a few Dell laptops have this problem. It's usually either the pins on the ac port, or the port itself goes bad (usually the contacts with the motherboard get broken). It's easy to visually inspect the pins, but you'd have to take the laptop apart to inspect the port contacts and capacitors.
