unallocated in not really a partition by its own right. unallocated is simply a term used to define a section of your hard drive that is not formatted with a windows file system ie ntfs & fat 32 =yuck


if you are not careful and delete a partion that is adjoing your operating system partition you could booger your OS so that it wont boot

you must think of the system partition as a two sided wall holding water if you remove the one wall all the water spills out

an OS partition also has two "walls" the beginning and the end if you remove the end the OS will fall flat on its face

there are programs such as Partition Magic (often referred to as PM) that can "slide" the partition without hurting your OS partition they can be very tricky to use and often beginners will booger upo their OS and cant boot after wards

i suggest you simply format the unallocated section of the drive so you can use it; this is the safest way provided there is no data in the unallocated section which you are trying to regain ?????

addendum****** is this machine is a mass produced one like Dell, gateway etc that could well be a hidden restore partition
