For starters i would recommend popping the case and just double checking that the cables are all secure and seated properly.

Then, i would suggest you run the diagnostic tools that maxtor has provided when you bought the hdd (maxblast i think) to check for any errors. If you lost the CD or the software provided isn't correct, search the support/download section of the manufacturers website.

We'll go from there.
