It is great that you want to learn linux. First thing you need to do is download a distrobution of linux to play with. The most popular choices right now may be Fedora Core, Ubuntu and OpenSuse. All of these are great version of linux, and they are fun to learn.

Books may help you learn, however they are outdated quickly. The best resources for learning linux and is to read forums on Linux. linuxforum.com is a good resource for linux information, along with resources on common linux services such as MySQL and Apache. I would definatly check it out.
